Insta360 Ace Pro Lens Mounting Plate
Model
This is a lens mounting plate for the Insta360 Ace Pro. It's designed to couple with the existing bayonet mount under the official lens. This makes it much easier to design and print lens mounts for any odd lens you might want to stick in front of an Ace Pro. All you need is some holes in your lens mount to match the 52mm spaced holes in this mounting plate.
Specifically, this includes:
- Tabs for coupling with the official bayonet mount (not identical, but close enough to work)
- 52mm spaced M3 countersunk bolt holes
- Sufficient clearance for an o-ring to be added to your own attached lens mount
- Printable without supports, all angles are 45 degrees or steeper
Hardware
- 4x M3 Countersunk Bolts, at least M3x12mm but length depends upon your lens mount
WARNING: These must be countersunk, particularly if you have a front screen protector. There is very little clearance between these bolt holes and the screen. This was necessary for making the design printable on FDM. The twisting force of locking into the bayonet mount will not just scratch the screen, it will straight up crack it.
Ensure the bolt heads are at least flush with the bottom edge of the mounting plate. Some additional post-processing or over-tightening of the bolts might be necessary for them to be flush.
Printing Considerations
This is a difficult print for FDM printers. Important details in the tabs for the bayonet mount are as small as 0.3-0.8mm. The tabs themselves are only 1mm thick and need to support the weight of the attached lens mount and lens.
Recommendations:
- Printing angle: Either tabs and countersunk head portion of bolt holes DOWN on the build plate, or print the whole thing at a very slight angle to reduce the chance of layer delamination at the mounting tabs
- Layer height: 0.12mm or smaller
- Speed: Slow
- Material: PLA Plus or stronger
- Post-processing for additional strength (e.g. annealing, gluing, plating)
Warning
The mounting tabs here really aren't very strong, but that is the design. They work much better in the official metal mount than in printed plastic, and they are only designed to hold the tiny and light official lens. Think carefully about whether you want to trust your lens to these tiny tabs or not. In my case, my lenses are cheap and light so it's sufficient.
I'd welcome a wrap-around mount or frame that bolts onto this if anyone has the time and motivation. That would allow good alignment, more strength and support for much heavier lenses. At the moment I don't have a design for this to share myself.
Lens Mounts
This print assumes you will design (or download) another model for the specific lens you want to attach to the Insta360 Ace Pro. As above, this design will need to have holes (or threads) for M3 bolts and likely a space for a nut or threaded insert.
Currently I don't have any lens mounts to share myself.
