SpoolCore is a container designed for using the Bambulab RFID tags on third-party spools, as well as to increase the weight of the spool and regulate the humidity within the AMS of the X- and P-series through silica.

The RFID holder is about enjoying the convenience of Bambulab spools, also from other manufacturers, and not having to choose a material or color on the printer by hand.

In my experience, most filaments from other manufacturers can also work great with the Bambulab profiles. But of course other profiles can still be selected for printing. So you don't have to worry about your printer working with the wrong settings.

Spools with a width of 60-75 mm and a diameter of 50-75 mm can be used. For larger spool inner diameters, the three wings ensure that the core is positioned correctly.

An inner cover specifically for silica storage, ensures that it cannot escape when the spools are changed. My filaments are either in the AMS or in an airtight box. Therefore the silica remains in the core. If you don't store your rolls outside the printer in airtight boxes or bags, or at least paper boxes, I recommend not using silica and leaving the container empty or filling it with something else.

When changing the spool, the RFID can be changed to a different material or color. I recommend printing the RFID holder in the color of the RFID chip so that it is easy to see from the outside which values are stored on the chip. The RFID holder is inserted from the inside out.

The unused RFID holders can be conveniently stored in a holder until they are needed again.

SpoolCore customized for specific brands for club members.

Process:

  • The Bambulab RFID chips must be cut off at the bend and inserted or glued (not needet) into the RFID holder.
  • These RFID holders can then be clipped into the spool core from the inside out.
  • The core is filled with silica. If it's just about weight, something else can be used. e.g. AAA batteries.
  • The core is then inserted into the coil and screwed together.
  • In the last step, the core is inserted into the spool and screwed to the counterpart.

Spools/manufacturers tested for compatibility so far.

  • Prusament (Prusa)
  • eSun spools
  • Sunlu plastic spools
  • Polymaker plastic spools
  • BambuLab spools
