KYOTO | Self-Watering Planter

Meet KYOTO, a japanese-inspired self-watering planter.

It comes in two sizes, and both sizes have 2 versions of the reservoir/vase:

one that has a smooth surface one that has a textured surface. DIMENSIONS (Small) | Ø 120mm x H 140 mm (neck inner diameter Ø 85 mm)

DIMENSIONS (Large) | Ø 180mm x H 210 mm (neck inner diameter Ø 120 mm)

3D PRINT SETTINGS For a watertight result, make sure your printer is well calibrated and lubricated. Then, increase the wall line count to 3. The wall thickness is 2.4mm, so that makes for 6 wall lines with a 0.4mm nozzle. That's plenty to make it watertight.

Resolution: 0.2~0.3 mm Infill: gyroid ~20% Build adhesion type: 6mm Brim for the Pot. No brim needed for the Reservoir. Supports: None

The planters on the pictures were printed with "fuzzy skin", to give some texture to the surface. To set it up, look for the fuzzy skin feature on your slicer (hidden under "Experimental" settings in Cura). Then:

  • activate "fuzzy skin"
  • tick "fuzzy skin outside only"
  • set "fuzzy skin thickness" to 0.25~0.3mm
  • set "fuzzy skin density" to 1.25mm
  • set "fuzzy skin point distance" to 0.8mm.
