Where to start? I would start by printing the example test print (Box, Insert, Lid and Lock STLs) to get an idea how your filament will respond with a 0.2mm tolerance or jump right in by downloading Autodesk Fusion 360 for personal use for free.
How do I create my own box in Fusion 360? Accessing the Starter Kit File:
- After downloading Fusion 360 and creating an Autodesk account, locate and open the Slide-n-Lock Starter Kit File. You can find this by clicking “Download All” button.
Opening the Fusion 360 File:
- Once the file is downloaded, open it in Fusion 360.
Adjusting Parameters:
- Navigate to "Modify" and select "Change Parameters." Adjust the dimensions of Length, Width, and Height in that order, followed by the Tolerance if necessary. These parameters control the interior dimensions and tolerance of the box.
- For example, if you're creating a card box with dimensions 89mm x 64mm x 17mm, consider adding 2-3mm to each dimension for a comfortable fit. This would result in new dimensions of 91mm x 66mm x 19mm.
Exporting the File:
- Choose "Export," name the file, and select "3MF Files (*3mf)" as the file type.
- Click "Export" to save the adjusted file.
Things to know about the items you will be printing regardless of sizes.
- Print Lid facing down
- Use Supports (I like the Organic Trees option.)
- I recommend printing the Slide Lock at 50mm/s for best results.
- WAIT for the Slide Lock to cool down before removing it from the build plate.
