Complete details on this thing Let me start by saying, I can't really recommend anyone undertake building one of this :) Not that it's that difficult...but why?
But that aside, this is a magnetically coupled, fluid-damped paper towel holder. See? I told ya. The paper towel holder piece is a flexural element printed from TPU, with the geometry intended to create two defined lines of contact with the paper towel tube.
As I'm sure you'll be shocked to learn, I don't think the damping dynamics are perfectly tuned, so I can't say it solved the "deterministic perforation tearing speed" that I dreamt of when I set out. But it does technically achieve it's base requirement of "holding paper towels". And the squeezy bit is fun, albeit a bit...unfortunate...in resemblance ¯_(ツ)_/¯
