Reusable Filament Spools for eSun Refillament

This reusable spool for eSun Refillament is simple to print, snap together and nestable making them quite convenient.

The spool consists of the same part which you print twice and then mate together by simply twisting them. There is a detent to hold them in position but you can reverse twist them to separate the halves just as easily. They also can be nestable for storage

I have included a printable snap-on label card for marking what filament is in the spool. The card also has some slots so if you remove a partially used spool you can zip-tie the label to the partial spool before putting it in storage. The card can snap onto multiple locations and on either side of the spool.

Another feature I added which is out there but I did not like how it was done on the ones I looked at was the ability to add zip-ties to the partially used filament roll before removing it from the spool. I made the side slots for inserting the zap strap extend to inside the spool diameter where there is a space for the strap to pass under the filament core. And, then I created offsetting additional space that allows the re-useable spool to be twisted and separated without interference with the now-installed zip-tie.

Lastly, I added more holes for inserting the end of the filament to tie it down. It always bothered me that some of the spools from the manufacturers have very few holes in the sides so you have to unspool some filament to reach the hole. Not a big deal… unless you are OCD. ugh.

100% printed - no hardware, fasteners, or adhesives required. No support is required.

Print Settings

For the best results, I suggest the following: Material = I recommend PLA or PETG but any material should work.
Nozzle = 0.4mm Layer Height = 0.2mm Line Width = 0.4mm Wall Count = 4 (1.6mm) Top and Bottom Layer Count = 5 Detect Thin Walls = ON Wall Generator = Arachne Infill = 40% (Cubic) Ironing = Not required Support = None required Print orientation = As per the STL/3MF files.

Will this fit the eSun cardboard spool if I remove the cardboard?

You know…. I am not sure. If it is the old eSun refillament it will fit with the cardboard. If it is the newer bambulab compatible spool check out my newer spool design.

Hello😁 i just printed this, am i supposed to remove the cardboard inside the eSUN filament refill? The spool does not fit😔

Yes, eSun has two spool sizes at the moment. This is the old one. The other one is the new Bambulab size spool.

There is no side a/b in model and no index nob.

eSun spools do not have an index. So the spool is made up of two identical halves. The bambulab spool has two different halves, one with an index.

The reusable spools for the Bambu Labs refills are the BOMB!!! They save me tons of money due the the savings I get buying the refill filament and they also help the environment. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into all of your designs, I'm upgrading my membership to support the site and your ideas. Keep up the great work!

Sorry, I just saw this comment here. I emailed you and have a bambulab design ready for testing if you are interested. Please check your email and let me know.

Is it possible to just scale these smaller so that I can use refillable Bambu Lab filament on them? I've made a couple of these reels and they are really nice! One has all my remnants and is about half full. Soon I'll have my own quick color changing reel, should be an interesting print! Thanks for your designs.
