I love what Zach Freedman has started with Gridfinity. However, I don't love having to get my magnet polarity correct without ever making a mistake. This just isn't practical, and I'm a firm believer that magnetic fasteners should always use a non-active surface with the active surface. In other words, steel strike plates should be half of the equation (and they're usually cheaper than magnets to boot!).

To that end, I've remixed a few different baseplate options for Gridfinity to specifically fit 1/4" x 1/32" disc strike plates available at stores like https://totalelement.com. This will also fit 6mm x 1mm strike plates if you're lucky enough to not deal with the constant unit conversion nonsense common in the US... or just order some from China.

**Minimal base plates:** These minimal base plates based upon the work of RIP_Plo-Koon (https://www.printables.com/model/250550). These are particularly efficient on the filament side, because they can be a full 1mm thinner than the version designed for magnets. These also match my risers that allow you to create tiers of tools and supplies with magnetic capability!

**Interlocking base plates:** This useful addition builds upon the ideas of Kyle Warren (https://www.printables.com/model/300603). I've also added a countersink for a standard M3 nut. The length is optimized for M3x8 bolts, so there isn't too much overhanging on either side with commonly available bolts. They're a little beefier, but still quite reasonable from a filament consumption perspective. They also raise the the container exactly 1base-u in height (7mm), so they fit the riser paradigm perfectly.

**Weighted bases:** I've also included a slightly modified version of Zach Freedman's original weighted bases (https://thangs.com/designer/ZackFreedman/3d-model/Gridfinity%20Baseplates-60925) in case you're a big fan or have a specific need.

You can still use M3 screws or bolts in the corners as well thanks to a little extra chamfer action.

Gridfinity Baseplates Optimized for Strike Plates and Bridges

Building upon the strike plate optimized base plates, these risers put magnets in the feet at the bottom AND the top for the next layer to build upon. **Elevate** your gridfinity with some magnetic stability!

The risers have a few key features
- Magnets in the **bottom and top** for a consistent connection pattern across your entire gridfinity system. Just make sure your polarities align correctly!
- M3 holes pass all they way through the risers, allowing you to bolt down permanent elevation where a magnet just won't suffice. This may sometimes require exceptionally long bolts or screws!
- I've included a useful sampling of ready to print files, but the parametric file can (without modification) support anything up to a 7x7xN riser! Just update the variables, and go wild.
- The elevation uses the gridfinity vertical unit of 7mm. Typical short containers use 1u (21mm) effective height. However, a riser is a bit of an exception. So, 0u and -1u are also valid options when deciding how you want to increment your stack. I've found 2u increments from row to row work best for my paint pots, so that might be a good place to start.
- Because these pass up the magnetic stability, I've found the 1x1xN risers most useful. For example, a 1x4 collection of paint is securely elevated on two 1x1x0 risers without a problem. This can substantially reduce the cost of elevating your storage with strategic stilts.

I love what Zach Freedman has started with Gridfinity. These are sister versions of the remixed baseplates I created. These versions use standard 6x2mm magnets, so you can continue using what you're familiar with if you don't want to switch over to strike plates on the bases.

**Minimal base plates:** These minimal base plates based upon the work of RIP_Plo-Koon (https://www.printables.com/model/250550). These are reasonably efficient on the filament side in my opinion. These also match my risers that allow you to create tiers of tools and supplies with magnetic capability!

I've reduced the number of holes to one per outside edge slot; however, I've also added a pressure fit recess for a standard M3 nut. The length is optimized for M3x8 bolts, so there isn't too much overhanging on either side with commonly available bolts. They're a little beefier, but still quite reasonable from a filament consumption perspective. They also raise the the container exactly 1base-u in height (7mm), so they fit the riser paradigm perfectly.
