The Rupee Storage Case is a print-in-place, zero supports model that can be customized to store a wide variety of things. My goal was to make the storage case as multi-functional as possible. The case itself features a print-in-place hinge and a "snap-closure." It can be printed and used as open storage or you can print and install any of the available custom inserts.

The Inserts: The Rupee Case itself can hold up to 4 of the custom inserts that I've created, and the inserts can fit on any side of the case (left/right, top/bottom). The inserts snap in and out of place easily, so you can always change up the configuration. These are the inserts I have created so far:

  • SD Card/Micro SD Card Inserts (2 pieces): Holds 8 SD Cards & 8 Micro SD Cards.
  • Nintendo Switch Inserts (2 pieces): Holds 8 Nintendo Switch Games & 5 Micro SD Cards
  • Nintendo DS Inserts (2 Pieces): Holds 4 Nintendo DS Games
  • Open Storage Insert (1 Piece): Wide open storage, great for if you want to add some color to the inside of the case and/or have divided storage space.

Printing Info:

These are just the settings I used to test the model, feel free to use whatever settings work best for you.

  • FDM or Resin: FDM
  • Scaling: Not too sure how it will function if scaled smaller. Everything should fit fine if scaled up, but scaling down will cause issues with the hinge. Obviously, the inserts will not be useful if scaled up, except for the open storage insert.
  • Supports: None
  • Infill/Perimeters: I just used 10% infill with 2 perimeters, but I would use extra perimeters for more strength.
  • Nozzle Size: 0.4
  • Layer Height: 0.2

Printing & Assembly Game Case Prints with no supports or post assembly required. Just print, make sure there are no issues with the hinge, and you're good to go. You can then print any and all inserts that are available to customize the storage!

The Inserts: The inserts can fit in any side of the 4 available spaces in the Rupee case, but there are a couple of inserts that NEED the top side installed:

  1. Switch Game Insert (2 Piece): Needs the top to keep the micro sd cards in place if used as a "travel case"
  2. SD/Micro SD Insert (2 Piece): Needs the top to keep the micro sd cards in place if used as a "travel case"

The following inserts don't NEED the top side: 3) Nintendo DS Inserts (2 Piece): The top side is optional as the games will not come out of the slots whether it's installed or not, but if installed it WILL minimize the movement of the cartridges. 4) The Open Insert obviously doesn't need a top side.

TROUBLESHOOTING: The only possible difficulty with this print will be the hinge. I have included plenty of clearance, so it should print easily as long as you are not over-extruding and your bridging is ok. If the hinge happens to fuse, double-check your extrusion/flow, and possibly bridging.
