A fresh take on the popular self defense keychain known as the Kubotan! Easy to print, easy to wield, looks great with your keys! There is a sharp/pointy version and a flat version. Add it to a keychain, leave one in your car (if printed in a temp stable plastic), and take it with you everywhere as a defensive "compliance aid". Please never use this to cause undue harm, this is a self defense item only. There are plenty of YT videos demonstrating possible techniques with the Kubotan. They are an incredibly effective and powerful DE-escalation tool if wielded properly. Hopefully never needed, but nice to have just in case!

Dimensions: 12.2 x 104 mm (~.5 x 4 in)

Weight: ~11 grams, printed solid with PETG

History The Kubotan keychain was originally based on a small bamboo weapon called a "hashi stick", an invention by Kubota's father, Denjiro. Its popularity grew from 1969 to the 1970s when Kubota, at the request of California State Senator Edward M. Davis then former Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, created the weapon and began training female officers in its application. It is often touted as extremely effective in breaking the will of unruly suspects with painful locks and pressure point strikes. Because of this, the Kubotan is also sometimes dubbed the 'instrument of attitude adjustment'.

Legality PRINT/CARRY AT YOUR OWN RISK The Kubotan may appear as an innocuous key fob to the untrained eye. Some jurisdictions, however, consider it an offensive weapon. In the United States, there are few legal restrictions on Kubotans, with the notable exception that they are prohibited as carry-on items for air travelers. Whether a non-spiked Kubotan (i.e., a rod) is classed as an offensive weapon in the United Kingdom depends upon the circumstances of the case and is for a jury to decide.

PRINTING:

  • For best results, print flat on one side instead of standing on end
  • Snug grid supports may help for the sharp end overhang
  • Print at ~8 shells, 100% rectilinear infill - only weighs 10-15g!
  • For durability, use PETG, PETG+, ABS, ASA, etc instead of PLA
