Astronaut Helmet Speaker Base fits Amazon Echo Dot
byPeter PrintsHello! I am excited to release this model as I have been working very hard to get this model to print the best it can as a print in place, functional, and "articulating" print.
SPACE! The final frontier...but how is your Alexa going to get there without her helmet?
I've had it in my head for awhile now to make something for the Amazon speakers, and I even bought the Echo Dot on sale about a year ago - I just never got to it - until now.
I have made two versions of this model, the base "Spaceman" simple version, and the full on "Astronaut" helmet version. This is the premium exclusive supporter Astronaut version. The difference between the two is the decoration of the oxygen gear on the front. (I may or may not have plans to add more fun extra "flair" items to the exclusive model, depending on how well it does).
All that being said, this can still be a tough print. The joints are fairly close together, for the visors, and they are thin, tall, round pieces printing directly next to each other. Make sure that whichever filament you use, you have it dialed in well. I included the 3MF file with the settings that I found success with in printing mine - although looking at the astronaut helmet I printed, the purge values could be upped a bit to reduce bleed. Make sure you have a clean plate, good adhesion, and when in doubt, slow it down. With those things in mind, I think you will find this can print very nicely, with no assembly required for it to work right off the plate.
Let me know what you think about it, and if you think models like this are something I should continue to do. I have had success selling speaker holders in the past, personally, so I think this could be lucrative, given that the Amazon listing for this speaker has over 100k REVIEWS. Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
