FormulaD Action d20 (Beginner Rules Start & Collision Rolls)
This is a supplementary d20 for the Formula D board game by Eric Randall and Laurent Lavaur.
When teaching the game, my family (especially young ones) had a tough time remembering what the number result of start checks and collision checks translated to in game mechanics.
I designed this custom d20 to be used for these rolls to keep up the pace of play, limit rule book checking, and give a more immediate reaction to the results. This die is designed to support the beginner rules, so there is one side for a bad start, four sides for a good start, and four sides for a collision. The start results are ignored during a collision check, and the collision result is ignored during a start check.
The spinning tire icon indicates a poor start. The 0 shape also reflects the number of spaces moved. The mushroom with a 4 indicates a good start, calling to mind the mushroom boost from Mario Kart, and indicating the number of spaces to move with the 4. The yellow bursts indicate a collision during a collision check and result in loss of 1 WP.
The faces have been oriented to limit the number of icons printed on the underside as topside icons have the crispest edges. The photos are of a print painted with some basic acrylics miniature paints.
