Planetary Egg Container

This egg shaped container prints-in-place and uses a planetary gear stage on the bottom which allows it to open 3 times faster than its turned.

Other Egg Containers: Mini Mega Magic

How it works The bottom outside shell is the ring gear, the outer top shell is the carrier, and the inner shell is the sun gear. Rotating the bottom shell while holding the top shell results in the plant gears rotating inner shell at a 4:1 ratio. 36 teeth of the sun, divided by 12 teeth of the planet, plus one.

Print instructions Its roughly 112mm tall, prints in place, designed for a .4mm nozzle, .2mm layer heights, no supports at 100%. There is a 4mm hex hole in the sun gear to free it up the gears if necessary.

There are two versions, one with a stop and one without. The version with the stop will only allow the inner shell to rotate 180 degrees. Originally it was designed to have stops but I accidently released it without. I decided to keep both versions. Let me know which one you like best.

Remove the brims There are four built in brims attached to the sun gear that will need to be removed, I did so easily with side cutters

Printed on the Muldex rep-rap IDEX printer.
