[ Update: April 11th, 2021 ] Added feet for the extrusion, to be printed in TPU/TPE :)

This is a storage rack for those boxes you get your screws, connectors etc. in from China. I have accumulated about 20 of these boxes and they need a home. UPDATE1:
  • Extrusion cap tolerance verified; fits perfectly.
  • Peg strength failed. Tolerance is ok, but removing the supports broke the piece. Redesign in progress.
UPDATE2:
  • Pegs redesigned, sturdier, 90 degrees, so universal for both sides. Boxes will now not be fully horizontal, but that should not be a real problem.
  • Also corrected a few numbers in the parts list.
UPDATE3:
  • I ordered extrusions for a double rack, expect them delivered in 2 weeks, will build a rack and post pictures :)
UPDATE4:
  • finally added the appropriate attribution
  • updated the text to reflect the progress of the design
  • currently printing and testing new end-cap design (the part that goes into the extrusion, that is. The visible and functional part, the 10 degree slope, stays the same.)
UPDATE5:
  • Removed the references to "left" and "right" peg, as they are no longer available.
  • Added an "alternate" version of the extrusion cap. This one stays in place better than the original.
UPDATE6:
  • Materials received, rack built. Some issues I need to address;
  • Added images of my make :) The extrusions are 300mm instead of 250, which wil be clear in a moment.
  • the spacing for the boxes is exactly box height, but I intended it to be slightly loose. Need to alter the peg-length
  • the improved extrusion cap has longer "grippers" taking space away from the pegs in the extrusion. This combined with the pegs needing to be slightly longer means room for less pegs in total, so, I will switch from 250mm to 300mm extrusions to compensate.
UPDATE7:
  • "alternate" cap is now cap v4, removed the old version as this "alternate" version is sooo much better.
  • Added picture with my finished rack.
  • determined the "perfect" peg length; 30.5mm. Added to the project
  • found the vertical extrusions spreading a bit towards the top, added a rod to help it stay at 100mm distance, but it needs work.
  • Rotated the gripping part of the extrusion cap and lengthened the pip in the middle. Cap now stays on firmly. You should still print v4 for in between de extrusions, but the rest should be v5. Updated the print list accordingly.
UPDATE8:
  • updated the rod; now fits snug so it actually helps the pegs to stay down as well, some of the pegs are loose, some snug, I don't know why, they printed all at the same time ... one of those mysteries, I guess... The rod helps to keep them in place and fills the remaining 6mm of space ;)
UPDATE9:
  • Added feet for the extrusion, to be printed in TPU/TPE :)

Hardware requirements:
  • the V-slot extrusions you need are the black ones, often called "European measurements", the silver coloured sometimes have smaller gaps. The type you need is like those used on Creality printers. Or you can print your own extrusions if you can print that large :).
  • I ordered these to length: https://aliexpress.com/item/32919571212.html
Hardware list for a single rack;
  • 2x 250300 mm extrusion
  • 3x 100 mm extrusion
  • 16x M4x8 bolt
  • 16x M4 T-Nut
and print
  • 2x 90 degrees coupler
  • 2x 80 degrees coupler
  • 2x extrusion cap v4
  • 6x extrusion cap v5
  • 18x peg with long stilt *1
  • 2x peg with short stilt *1
  • 1 rod
  • 4x Foot (TPU/TPE)
Hardware list for a double rack;
  • 3x 250300 mm extrusion
  • 5x 100 mm extrusion
  • 28x M4x8 bolt
  • 28x M4 T-Nut
and print
  • 4x 90 degrees coupler
  • 3x 80 degrees coupler
  • 3x extrusion cap v4
  • 9x extrusion cap v5
  • 36x peg with long stilt *1
  • 4x peg with short stilt *1
  • 2 rods
  • 6x Foot (TPU/TPE)

see print bed screenshot for printing orientation and supports *1) the pegs need support above 50 (!) degree overhang, if set lower, the stilts get support as well, which is not needed; you should be able to print 45 degree overhang without supports.
