20240509 update: I have a new version 2.0 of this design with a programmable combination lock in the base. Check it out at... https://than.gs/m/1060354

This 3D printable soda can replica is a fun hiding spot with a secret combination opening. Kind of a hide-in-plain-sight toy safe. Super fun for kids or those like me who are kids at heart.

The top opens only when a special sequence of actions is applied (see the attached image with instructions).

Obviously, it is not a great safe as someone can just walk away with it. But in terms of fun for those who want a hiding spot for something small, it is pretty good.

All the components of the design are assembled as shown in the image (and please watch the video too). No fasteners or adhesives are required. But I do recommend applying some lubricant as described in the video.

I also include a plain lid that does not lock. It is just a screw-on lid. If you print that make sure to use a low infill like 10 or 20%.

100% printed - no hardware, fasteners, or adhesives required.

Printing

Material: Any material.

My Setup: Nozzle = 0.4mm

My Settings: Layer height = 0.2mm Line width = 0.40mm Wall count = 4 (1.6mm) Infill = 40%

Support: Designed to print without support except for the lid which has support designed in. So do not add support.

Commercial Licensing is available through my logicalplanet Memberships here on Thangs. I will customize and provide commercial support to members on request.

I am committed to helping everyone get great print results to the extent I can so please contact me if you are having issues I enjoy trying to help resolve those challenges. I welcome requests, suggestions and ideas to help make this and all my products better. Please send me a message any time.

I scaled it up to 140% to fit a real can inside as a gift for a friend! I had to scale the retaining rings 200% on the z-axis though, otherwise the mechanism was too loose to lock the rotating clip.

What is that chrome fillament? I tried to find some similar but all chrome and silver silk i find turn out to be looking more like brushed grey metal. Looking for a shiney one like you got.

I would like to know too. It appears to be a really nice chrome filament!

Pretty cool project

Made 2 cans so far. Really cool concept but for some reason the locking part doesn’t work on either one. I don’t have to push the button and turn the tab for it to open, but still fun little things to play with

Scale the C-clip and the retaining ring up a bit on the z-axis so they hold the mechanism tighter and it will work.
