With its detailed skeletal structure, this bony behemoth is prepared to perch on your shelf as the haunting highlight of your Halloween assembly or stand sentinel, casting a bone-chilling shadow for your guests.  This ancient creature refuses to let the ghosts, ghouls, and dragons have all the fall-time fun on their own.

This Bony Basilisk is the third creation in a series of Snap-Flex models by Mimetics 3D, and it's available for free for a limited time.


**Snap-Flex Collection:**
This articulated fidget toy integrates the Mimetics 3D "Snap-Flex" joint. This allows it to both move smoothly, mimicking the fluid motion of living creatures, AND stabilize in a firm pose, providing a premium fidgeting experience.

**Suggested Material: PLA or PLA+**
**Note:** Silk PLA is too weak to hold up to repeated use of the Snap-Flex joint.  Use silks at your own risk


**No Supports, Print-In-Place at 100% scale** 
Printing any smaller may disable the Snap-Flex joint.

Printing larger than 100% will make the snap louder AND **harder to pop**, so be sure to do a shorter test print to make sure it's not **TOO hard to snap into place.**

These tolerances are TIGHT and you'll likely have to snap each segment a few times before it's loose enough to snap/unsnap easily. I recommend you use regular PLA or PLA+. ABS might be even better, but I haven't tried it yet.

If you print this in resin, please let me know how it turns out. I imagine you would need a more flexible/less stiff resin for it to work appropriately.

**_Printing Guidelines_**

- _Grid.stl_ : Your usual print settings should work fine. I used 15% infill, 5 top layers, 0.2mm layer height. Optionally, swap filament above 1.2mm to make the grid stand out.
- _Skewbits A-D_ : 2-3 perimeters, 0.16mm layer height. No supports. Proper extrusion is important to ensure the print-in-place hinges are sturdy without fusing together (Clearance is 0.3mm). Use the colors indicated by the filenames if you want to match the solution guide. **Prints right side up.**
- _Grid_TPUgrip.stl_ -  Optional grip for the bottom of the grid. Print solid using [Ninjaflex TPU](https://bit.ly/ninjaFLEX)(Also on [Amazon](https://amzn.to/45IhDt9)) or similar. Glue in place using [E6000 adhesive](https://amzn.to/3FrgcV9), etc.
- _Grid_LaserGrip.svg_ : Optional grip for the bottom of the grid. Designed for lasercutting. I used 3mm cork. Watch [my video](https://youtu.be/j_jYnhOX49g) for details.

There's a big and small versionand there is also a plain flipper without the hands and feet.

Print the flipper with supports touching buildplate at 100% infill to give the ball in the centre a good weight to help it flip.

** Print Settings**
Unfortunately this cannot be printed in vase mode due to its construction. The Hugging Vase 01 needs supports for the arms. 

I printed it at .2mm layer height with 25% infill and with 2 perimeters/shells. You can print it at a higher layer height to speed up the print time.

**Print Settings**
The Body, Insulation, and Handle detail can be printed without supports. I printed them out at 20% infill with 4 perimeters/shells and it felt rigid.

The Handle needs to be printed upside down with supports (everywhere option). I printed this at 20% infill as well.

**Assembly**
1. The Insulation slides into the Body and is pressure fit together, use super glue if needed.

2. The Handle detail fits into the indent on top of the handle. It will need to be super glued in. You can use a binder clip through the hole in the handle to keep the parts together while gluing. 

3. Once the glue dries you can move onto the next step.

4. Slide the Handle assembly over the Body assembly. The left and right points of the handle will slide over the embossment on the sides of the body. They should automatically press into place when they are positioned right.

UPDATES
V6 - Fixed firing reliability issues across the board. Made assembly easier, bands don't need convoluted mounting any more. Made the design easier to print. Dozens of small tweaks... this may be the final version, we'll see after I make 2 and test.
V5 - Display Stand, nubs on top to keep the bands a bit separated so they don't pinch the release catch, fatter release for wider bands, magazine tapered and smoothed at the corners to help with band release

V4 - Less tweaking needed to get full auto working, smoother operation, left and right hand versions, NOTE, Elastic release may be updated shortly, trying to get the full auto to be more reliable so changing the angles a lot.

This works by loading bands onto a rear rotating square magazine which is kept from rotating forwards by a rocker. Note: Load the magazine with the bolt locked forward to prevent it from hitting the rocker.

When you release the bolt it will cycle backwards knocking a bulge on the rear of the elastic catch into the rocker causing it to rotate a quarter turn. This will load a band onto the catch, which is then held in place by the bolt getting stopped by the trigger sear. When you pull the trigger, the band on the catch pulls the bolt forward and releases the band towards your target, then another small band on the bottom of the catch pulls the bolt back and the catch hits a shoe again allowing the magazine to rotate another quarter turn. This repeats with a satisfying noise, the bolt cycling back and forth like a real open bolt SMG, and lots of rubber flying towards your intended victim, and good fun is had by all hopefully.

Holds 8 rounds one at a time or 1 15 if your really feeling lucky (V4 made this much more feasible). I MAY try a hex version that will increase capacity by 50% in V6.

V5 Non 3D printed parts list:

M3x8~12 Screws - Goes into body below mag catch
M3x6~8 x2 Screws - Holds connecting rod between bold and band release
M3x16~20 Screws x10 - Holds the whole thing together, self tapping
Loom sized band x2 - Goes around that screw and over mag catch to hold it down | Goes over bottom of release and post behind trigger to keep rear tension on bolt
3mmx20mm rods x5 - Through all moving parts
Bic pen spring - goes in small channel under sear to provide upwards pressure
