I have now made a version 2.0 of this product, which is significantly better. I recommend that product over this one. The new one is available here... https://than.gs/m/1386318

======================== Now with a pick-up knob for easier use. See the STL filenames to choose the type of your choice.

Pull this drain strainer out of your sink and hold it over the waste bin, squeeze the sides, and it pops open to drop out any trapped food scraps. Push it back together and drop it back into the drain. Touch-free disposal of your food scraps from the strainer.

I have designed this product in 2 heights to accommodate various sink drain heights. The lower profile design is approximately 22mm high and the other is approximately 30mm high.

This design is resistant to hot water that humans can cope with but of course, do not pour boiling water directly onto it. Use PETG and print with 100% infill.

100% printed - no hardware, fasteners, or adhesives required. No support required

Thank you pilbomags70 for the inspiration for this design!

How I print it: Material = I recommend PETG.

Nozzle = 0.4mm Layer height = 0.2mm Line width = 0.4mm Wall count = 4 (1.6mm) Infill = 100% Brim = Do not use brim (everywhere) as it could close up the gap between the outer and inner parts. Ironing = ON, to help produce a smooth finish that food scraps are less likely to stick to.

I got this to print for my mother who had bought something similar recently but it had a button that was too easy to push. She loves it so far. It would have been nice to see a few variations on this though as her sink drains were far too deep for this to sit near the top and I don't think scaling it on the Z axis would work without ruining the hinge. Some variants on the lip at the top might have been nice too in case you want it to hang off of the drain rather than sit at the bottom. Still, nice and rugged design and the hinge and latch work surprisingly well.

I would be happy to make a deeper one for you. I just need to know how deep? And, as you noted, scaling z will not work. The lip idea is good but so many variations are possible so that is less practical. Let me know the Z height you want relative to one of the existing models and I will whip it up!
