Watering can

Watering can

Published on 24.01.2022 - so almost two years ago It was my fist "best seller" at the time and really pushed my progress

until today has been purchased for personal use almost 1K times over different plattforms - and is also a well established part of the inventory of my commercial licece holders.

๐Ÿ“šProcess: The idea was pretty straight forwad: How can i get the design to be printable without the spout blocking up most of the print bed while also beeing support free? The solution was to print it 45 degreees rotated on the part of the handle. Since this already required a flat surface there i decided to go for a more geometric look here. Optimising the different surfaces and their angles for not only the "Use" roation but aso the "print" roation was quite challanging. Since this is a small can designed for watering your house plants - i had to decide for a flow ratio that best fits the usual pot size of those plants. I tried out various diameters and found that a certain number of seconds to empty the can is (i forgot how many exactly - i think it was 19 seconds) was a good choice. I ended up changing measurements around until those exact number of seconds turned out as result. I put a big emphasis on the actual flow here because i drove me mad how my existing non-3d-printed watering can was spilling and dripping water all the time.

๐Ÿ‘ดTime: How did it hold up over the two years? I have been using the original print almost every day and it is probably one of the designs i use the most. The second image you can see is a photo that i took today - still looking fine overall. The difference in color comes from my crappy phone camera. There is a build up of lime at the water mark inside (the white strip you can see) which is usual for the hard water we have around here. Still water proof although i must have dropped it over 10+ times at least.

๐Ÿฅณit is one of my personal favourites and i printed a lot of those for friends in all sorts of colors.
