This was my first attempt at electroplating a 3d print! Electroplating (or electroforming) is the process of depositing metal onto a surface using electrical current. This process is very interesting because it allows you to combine the freedom of 3d printing with the aesthetic, weight and rigidity of metal.

Here's a great tutorial on the process - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyBuqWXAN5g

Some quick tips:

Any surface imperfections will show up after being electroplated.

Resin printers are better suited for electroplating.

Varnish or sanding can be used to remove surface imperfections.

Airbrushing or dipping produces smoother results than brush painting.

Conductivity of the paint is extremely important. Use multiple coats to maximize conductivity. Graphite is more conductive once polished.

To achieve optimal current density use a power supply in constant current mode at 1A per Decimeter^2(surface area) for 4 hours.

A rotating jig helps reduce plating shadows. A magnetic stirrer can help ensure uniform metal ion density in electrolyte.

Don't forget PPE.
