This is the Free Core system of the Exo Guitar.

It comes with the "Training V" basic wings that are somewhere between a Travel/training guitar and a Flying V, and provide you with a chance to experience the ExoGuitar and how awesome it can be.

ExoGuitar is a system that I've been working on for the last 6 months and I am excited to finally be releasing it out into the wild! The plan is to put out the core framework for free and then have a membership for more advanced parts that build on top of the core package.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Print all files
  2. Add the following heat inserts: a. M3 to top of Neck Mount b. 2x M8 to front of Foot c. 6x M4 to rear of foot (Leave them sticking out just a bit for later)
  3. Add the following Magnets: a. 8x 6x2 magnets to rear of face plate b. 8x 6x2 magnets to front of Compartment - Make sure that they pair with the face plate magnets c. 4x 6x2 magnets to rear of right wing d. 4x 6x2 magnets to right wing covers - Make sure they pair with the Right Wing magnets
  4. Glue the Rails into the Compartment Cover.
  5. Attach the 2020 extrusions to the Neck Mount using the M3 T nuts and 4x M3x8 SCHS. Make sure to tighten these screws well. Locktite might not be a bad idea for these screws.
  6. Pop the compartment cover into the 2020 extrusions under the neck mount. It should be touching the Neck Mount.
  7. Attach the Foot to the 2020 extrusions using the 6x M5x12 and 6x M5 T-Nuts. The Shoes should go between the foot and the 2020 extrusions. Make sure that there's approximately a 1mm gap between the foot and the Compartment Cover. Tighten these screws well. Locktite might not be a bad idea for these screws.
  8. Remove the Compartment cover for now.
  9. Attach the Left Wing pieces to the 2020 Rail using the M5x6 screws and M5 T-Nuts. I would recommend using CA glue between the wing pieces after you've gotten them on the rail so everything is lined up nicely.
  10. Glue the Right Wing Peg into the bottom of the right wing.
  11. Attach the Right Wing Pieces to the 2020 Rail using the M5x6 screws and M5 T-Nuts. As you're sliding the pieces on, add CA glue to the peg hole in the top of the right wing.
  12. Optional: use black hot glue on the inside of the right wing to close any gaps left in the face of the guitar.
  13. Install the potentiometers, switch, and jack to the Right wing, and do your wiring. For now, lookup a different walkthrough for how to wire a guitar. I recommend adding some form of wire connector to any wires that will have to travel out of the wing compartment so the pieces remain modular.
  14. Install the Pickups into the Compartment. For most pickups, The screw should go through the rail, then through a spring, and then thread into the pickup. As above, I would recommend using wire connectors here so you can disconnect the compartment from the rest of the guitar.
  15. Pop the compartment into place and adjust the pickups until they are as high as they can go without raising the face plate
  16. Put the faceplate over the compartment to hide the pickups and the rails.
  17. Connect the Pickups to the Right Wing Wiring harness.
  18. Using a soldering iron and solder, connect the 6 m4 heat inserts on the bottom of the foot together so they can pass electrical signals. Then solder a wire to one of them and run it to the back of the volume pot. I recommend using a wire connector here so you can disconnect this if you want to take the guitar apart later.
  19. Put the Right Wing Covers in place.
  20. Install the neck. First put the neck in place and get it in there snug. Then using a 3mm drill bit carefully drill through the holes in the neck mount into the neck, being careful to not drill through the face of the neck. A piece of masking tape on the drill bit can help with this. The screws should go through the neck plate, then through the neck mount, and into the neck.
  21. Install the back plates with the M3x
  22. Install the strings.
  23. Tune
  24. Rock Out!
