Sting - Lord of the Rings
The project files are organized into folders for easier printing and navigation. For that reason, stl file preview is turned off.
I started with something to kickstart my "attention to detail" skill, so I figured I'd finally make one that was very long due, especially since now Jack Oakes has provided me with some very detailed references. Thank you Jack!!! Good references are always the biggest obstacle when making good 3d models , so this was very much appreciated.
It goes without saying the elvish inscriptions and the vines on the hilt were a nightmare to be recreated, but as with all heavy details i ended up loving it :D I manually 3d modeled every letter and symbol, bit by bit to get it as close as possible as it can be to the real deal, and now that those are done I am very happy with the accuracy of those.
In case you were wondering, the elvish inscriptions on the model are not random, i did my best to accurately recreate the design, so in elvish they say : " Maegnas aen estar nín - dagnir in yngyl im", or translated roughly to " Sting is my name, I am the spiders bane "
Entire sword is scaled to the official prop replica ( well at least very close to it) . The blade is slightly thicker to make sure you will be able to print it and the rod cutout for strength is 5 mm instead of my usual 8 due to its size.
Now, to make sure you will have an easier time with painting the grip vines/details are actually extruded outwards a bit so it does not make the prop more "alive" it also helps with painting. Before you ask me, yes I had the idea of making a 2d stencil that will wrap up around the clean hilt, but it was just impossible to get it right with the twists and everything in 3d, so I abandoned that idea. It might be possible once we print it, and manually trace the vines on the paper with a pen, and then unfold that paper to get a 2d stencil ( just thinking out loud :D )
Included are:
- fully combined full scale Sting( you can scale it down if you want for small scale resin print as well)
- stl files
- 3mf files with settings as well presupported (bambu studio format)
- presplit parts (as always) for easier printing
- included rod cutout for structural strength
