Building a small desk to the side of my daughters bed

Building a small desk to the side of my daughters bed

Let me share a bit of my design process of a small desk table top. The top picture shows my initial design. It hooks on to the side of the bed. I've added extra infill modifier on the weakest point. Supposedly PLA will slowly sag in the long term, so I printed it in PETG.

Fully printed it looks like this:

  • I over-complicated the triangles part.
  • While the triangle part felt strong, it felt like the desk might break on the hook part.
  • 3cm is wider than required.
  • The table top is sticking out quite far, so it would be nice to have that triangle part be a bit longer.

So I made some improvements. It's simpler and now also holds on to the top bar of the bed. It also only just fits my printer.
