My attempt at making the best round basic planter.

Features

  • The design comes in 11 sizes ranging from 100 to 300 mm in diameter.
  • At first the excess water will drip into the first saucer where the lifted bottom leaves a classic drip tray.
  • You can water your plant from the top or bottom, depending on your preference.
  • The second saucer acts as floor protection and overflow. If you want to empty out one of them, you can leave the pot on the other saucer and don’t have to bring it to the sink.
  • The first saucer, combined with the slanted inner bottom of the pot creates a self-watering system that absorbs water beyond the drip-tray level slowly. If you want it to last even longer you can print the insert and place a self-watering wick for plants that need less water over a longer period.
  • Both trays are slanted for airflow and evaporation, so you won’t get stale water. You can easily monitor the water level.
  • The trays are rounded off on the inside for easy cleaning.
  • The round shape allows for easy rotation into the sunlight.
  • The slanted pot allows for easy repotting, and the insert is optimized so the self-watering wick will also come loose easily when repotting.

Instructions

  • Choose your size
  • Decide whether you want the slow self-watering insert or not.
  • Print your parts
  • Without insert: place your plant directly into the pot and place it on the two saucers
  • With insert: cut a piece of cloth or a store-bought self-watering wick and pull it thorough the insert. The central hole is 5mm in diameter while the other holes are 4mm. This allows for a wick between 3 and 6 mm in diameter. Place as many wicks as you want to regulate absorption speed. Place the insert inside of the pot before adding soil and plant. Make sure the wick touches the bottom of the pot, so it can absorb the entire reserviour.

Print settings Material: PLA Print direction: files are rotated correctly Support: none Nozzle size: 0,4 mm Line width: 0,4 mm Layer height 0,2 mm Infill: 15% Build plate adhesion type: none
