Want some pineapple slices?

My sliced Ananas organizer!

Inspiration

I saw a video of a pineapple slicing machine and thought to myself – what if you could put all of that back together? This is basically what I did!

Process

It was super awkward selecting a suitable pineapple in the supermarket, so I just bought several. The scan was difficult due to the complex green on top. It took me 4 full days to get from purchase to cleaned up scan. A record. Not only was everything smelling like pineapple over these days, but the process was also super tiring due to all the tiny repetitive details that needed to be optimized for printability. I wasted no food and ate all of them in the end. I will not have another one for months, this was too much.

After the mesh was finally cleaned, usable with optimized overhangs I could finally start with the interior. This went by rather quickly comparted to the previous tasks.

Design

The Design has three compartments with subdivisions in the shape of little slices. Exactly how it would be sliced in real life! The rod that holds it all together allows for a 90-degree rotation in one direction each. The slices lock into the rod when closed.

When opening you can’t fully reach into the back of the compartments. All sub-compartments can be simply rotated in and out so you can ergonomically get everything in and out.

You can use it for all sorts of application. Sweets, jewelry or craft supplies are just a few examples.

If you are into painting – I would love to see someone paint is photorealistic! Since this is 3d scanned you can probably fool someone into thinking this is real!

Printing

Even if the shape looks taunting – it is not at all difficult to print. No supports and no special settings needed. The only thing to be careful about is the overhangs of the green. I spend a lot of time optimizing those, but I also did not want to change the original shape too much – so there are steep but doable overhangs. I printed it on my P1P in the 0.2mm default profile with no changes.

This one took a lot of effort and i hope you like it!
