Trah can V1-V3

Trah can V1-V3

This is the evolution of my trash can design over the years. I recently gave it a fresh overhaul with some new learnings and techniques.

I printed a lot of them over time and have V1, V2 and V3 all in use in different places. Even though they are very thin, i so far have not manged to break or damage one.

Back then i ony had a Ender 3V2 with a very common print bed size of 220x220 mm. I wanted to max out the built volume while having this design print fast and with little material usage. This was basically a "how fast, big and light can this get" experiment.

The ribbed design adds streng to the only 0.8mm thick shell.

The body of the V1 worked well but i wanted to add a swing-lid. I went for a nice print-in-place mechanism that got a lot of attention on social media.

The ballace and "swing" was kind of challenging at the time but i made it work after wasting way too much filament on prototypes.

The design does it's job perfectly to this day and it is therefore still available. Well - if you remove the lid you end up with the V1, so both are stil there.

I wanted to give the design a face lift. The functionality of the V2 was good, but a fresh new look was wanted.

I went in the style of my "glitch" series. If you remember old video games - where object would sometimes glitch ito walls or not load properly in high-poly - you get the idea.

With the arrival of faster printers this is also slightly thicker than the V2 due to the missing ribs. Since P1P and friends are widely ditributed, print time optimisation has become way less important.

I can't think of anything that i would change at this point besides a push-to-open lid with a 3d printed spring. It is a challenge i may or may not accept in the future :)
