Sponge holder history V1-V5

Sponge holder history V1-V5

This is the story of one of my oldest designs - and it's evolution over three years. It always bothered me to have my kitchen cleaning utensiles lying around wet. The design took a few turns and came to it's (hopefully) final form after a lot of usage, observation and improvement.

V1

Published August 2020

originally the design was compromised of two parts. The holder with holes and a drainge tray with sprout. It worked as intended but had some flaws:

- the spout was unneccesary and only a few drops would occasonaly drip into the sink

- the cloth was a little difficult to insert

- the tray required support

V2

Published May 2021

After 9 months of usage i came up with a completely different solution that adressed the issues of the V1. The cloth was now easier to hang on and i got rid of the drainge due to the little water that came out of the spout.

This one already worked quite well but again had some flaws:

- when touching the cloth holder bracket - it might spring up a little - and the cloth would fall off ocasionally

- I realised after a while that no draige was also no solution. The sponge tried up too slow.

V3

This was never published due to too little improvement. The difference to the V2 was only to symetrize it - so the bracket would not move anymore.

V4

I dedided to address the remaining flaws by adding in a drainge again, this time with no spout - and having the cloth holder attached on both sides. This version also had a unified connecter system which is better that having the hooks printed into the parts. So if the print fails on the delicate hook - you don't have to throw out the whole assembly. The design is also slightly wider and higher - since i realized that some cloth manufactures have bigger sizes products.

This design holds up well to this day and is available for free: https://than.gs/m/881959

V5

One day i pushed over the V4 while cleaning and had a idea! If printed sideways - it can be done in one part without the complex assembly!

The function is identical to the V4 - but it is way easier and faster to print.

If you made it to the end, thanks for reading! I continuously observe and use my designs as much as possible and have a big "testing status" list. I try to deliver the best possible quality and will bring a design to it's final for even if it takes 3+ years :D
