Fraxinus Excelsior

Fraxinus Excelsior

I teamed up with Lofted Goods to bring you a planter with hidden drip tray that I based on 3d scanned wood bark. You will surely know his famous planter series and I am happy to be a part of this.

The tree in question is Fraxinus excelsior or ash. I selected this tree not only because it has a beautiful and subtle texture but also because it is endangered. It is one of my personal favorites with its high and slender shape and unusually flowy leaves. The European ash is being threatened by two imported pests that has already decimated their numbers greatly. As much as 90% are infected. Seeing healthy ones still around makes me so happy. Maybe they can make it – there seem to be a few more resistant ones that can keep them from dying out.

I walked around a lot to look for very round trees and 3d scanned quite a few until I ended up with this specimen. I did not modify the scan too much, just to ensure a even minimum thickness for water tightness of the pot.

The design is easy to print with no support or special settings. Have fun!
