Banana lamp!
I have wanted to make a banana lamp basically since the release of the bowl. Only in recent weeks I figured out how to actually achieve this. To get a pleasant light out of this design the bananas must be hollow - to have the necessary stability the base must be solid with infill. I had to carefully sculpt the hollow to get this printable without support, be stable and suited for multi-color printing. The balance between banana and “not banana” – the empty space between them – was important for the direct light that should come through but not be disturbing to the eyes. To achieve stability during the print the bananas had to be connected at a certain height.
I had to reorder yellow filament multiple times due to all the prototypes that were not quite there yet. This therefore took way longer than a usual project. I ended up with four different versions for both desk and ceiling usage – based on the most readily available light sources.
I decided to throw all versions into one bundle right away, so you can get started without delay or asking for different versions! If pendant or desk – this is ready to go based on my experience with all the other lamps that I made so far – hopefully for everyone.
This was a massive project that look a lot of time and effort. I really hope this will bring you some joy!
Have fun printing
