Amanita Muscaria
My new mushroom lamp is out now!
Reminder: All new releases are now always downloadable for makers and enthusiasts even if you ran out of your monthly points! I have put this design in the welcome bundle as a little hack!
In terms of fame this is one of the most well-knows mushrooms of all time and I decided to embody the extraordinary shape into a lamp. Since many of my dear members are mushroom enthusiasts – this was only a question of time.
I had the idea floating in my head for long time now. What made me pull the trigger was the LED lamp kit from bambulab. The mushroom has a thin stem and flat head which makes it almost impossible to fit a regular bulb in there without making the thing massive or out of proportion. Since I value a high level of naturalism this was deal breaker for me. With this puck light approach the shape become viable.
This design goes down as one of my most complex assemblies so far. Getting the functionality working while also leaving enough room for organic sculpting was hard. It took about 3x more prototypes than usual. I maxed out the possibilities in fusion 360 and blender for this is a hybrid approach that took up a lot of mind space over the past weeks.
The light source does not only shine trough the gills but also the tiny white spots! This extra feature is what makes this so mesmerizing. Combined with the high level of surface details this print just looks so cool! I am of the opinion this in one of the best-looking things I have ever made.
Surprisingly this is a rather easy print with default settings and no support! I am particularly proud of having succeeded in removing the need for support on this one.
I bought an infrared thermometer for this to measure the heat on all parts since the bambulab LED kit does get a little warmer than expected. There are measurements and more details in the description but overall if you print the small holder inside in PETG and all other parts in regular PLA this should be fine.
There is a little assembly required with putting in all the white spots, but it should be done in 10-15 minutes.
I really hope you like this one!
