(FREEBIE) Celebrating 100 Designs!
Hello everyone,
A few days ago, noticed that I have reached the milestone of 100 public designs! This only took almost 4 years!
To celebrate this occasion, I am offering a big discount for this week and a “anniversary” freebie.
Use the code GL100 to get 50% off your first two months with no minimum commitment. Also make sure to download and print my new pencil holder design. It is FREE for this occasion.
The FREE design
This is the community voted winner of the last Idea poll in the discord. It won with quite the margin, and I am very happy to present the results today!
The design is based on a 3d-scan of a beautiful “thuja occidentalis”. I paid close attention to preserving all details and original features while embedding the functionality. I scanned multiple trees over the past weeks searching for a specimen that divides into multiple big branches right at the bottom while also being sufficiently straight to be able to accommodate pencils. I got lucky on a hiking trip to the alps. Such big scans are a burden to clean up and get printable. It took me two full days to turn the point clouds into a usable mesh.
The three branches are hollowed out to a height that allows the usual pencil size to stick out enough to be easy to grab. The design incorporates a compartment for pen related supplies like erasers that uses my well tested stacking feature.
The print is rather simple, and your default profile will do the job just fine. The overhangs were already optimized by nature itself which allows for no support.
A litte background
This journey has been a wild ride so far and have stumbled from a nice little hobby into a full-time occupation. Even if I made almost nothing in the first few years, I continued to develop new designs -simply because this way of work is just 10x better for a designer. The freedom to realize own ideas without a boss or management that throws stones in your way is just too good to stop. That of course means that sometimes I come up with weird stuff that no one wants to print besides me and two others. I still value all my designs even if it is just for learning experience. A few things you may find on my Instagram profile are not downloadable anymore. I maintain a strict rule over my catalog and once I discover improvements or errors I either fix them or replace them with something better. This means that we are already way beyond 100 projects that I realized. It is just that we crossed 100 survivors.
A massive thank you to everyone who supports my work and makes this possible! I will continue to invest all of my energy into new project for you!
Here are a few personal highlights from the past years:
Best and thanks again <3
