This is the Rad-Maker-Bro submission to the #3DPNSpeakerCover contest. This cover should fit a SEAS model H1456-08 ER18RNX speaker.

The Inspiration: I wanted a speaker cover that had both good design and related to music.

Research led me to discover 12-tone equal temperament. This is visualized with a scale known as the Chromatic Scale. This specific scale can be utilized to visualize other scales and chords. Each scale or chord has a specific shape when the proper notes are connected within the Chromatic Scale. When all possible scales are connected you will get the geometric shape in my model. I also wanted to highlight a triangle to correspond to the design of the already 3D-printed speakers. This triangle shape makes chord C Sus4.

To help understand the concept in greater detail I have provided a link to a really cool site I found. this site allows you to make different scales and chords. While visiting be sure to make the C Sus4 scale and take a listen. For even deeper learning I have also linked a blog by a very smart person named Roel.

Printing Stuff: Print the entire model(s) with 90-96% infill or just up your wall count to ensure that solid walls are achieved. If this model is picked, any design changes necessary can be made to ensure it works for you. It is also recommended that a brim or raft is used for the cap due to the thin walls. A color change at the end of the cap print will allow for the roman numerals t be a different color than the rest of the model.

Grading Criteria:

  1. Innovative = Yes, the first time the Chromatic Scale is turned into a speaker cover.

  2. Visually Pleasing = For us, yes, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder so we do not know for sure.

  3. Processable Only with 3D Printing = Yes, Specifically designed to be 3D printed. The draft on the raised triangle would make this super difficult to injection mold/thermoform/resin pour........etc.

  4. Educational = Yes, this cover can help to teach people the Chromatic scale which is one of the fundamental building blocks to modern music.

Thank you for considering and taking the time to read.
