This model was designed for the Product Design Online #Gift 3D modeling challenge and was designed using both Fusion 360 and Meshmixer.

This diorama was created as a gift for the dungeon master of my Dungeons & Dragons group as a thank you for all of his hard work and dedication to running an amazing campaign for us. My D&D group goes by the name “Intimate Encounters” and our group got started in 2019, thus the engraving on the front facet of the pedestal. The largest, centralized character is a stylized version of the DM, playing his role as the overlord of our world. Surrounding the base of the diorama, from left to right, are; Zardok the wizard, Braun the barbarian, Honor the paladin, Englebert the rogue, and the character I play, Eruit the bard. This constitutes the current party in my D&D group’s campaign.

The pedestal base of the diorama was designed from scratch using Fusion 360. Once the pedestal was finished it was exported from Fusion 360 as an STL mesh and brought into Meshmixer. Next, the rocky terrain, stone pillars, and ground details (such as skulls and bones) were added to the base. All of the terrain features were sourced from online model sharing sites. In total there are over 41 unique model meshes that were “mesh-mixed” in creating the terrain alone. After the main terrain elements were positioned and combined with the mesh of the pedestal base, all of the terrain was touched up and blended together with Meshmixer’s sculpting and mesh repairing tools.

The last step in the design process for this model was to incorporate the character model meshes to complete the diorama. All of the character models were designed in and purchased from Hero Forge’s character creation service.

This model is designed to be printed on an SLA 3D printer with minimal supports, and will be printed on my Creality LD-002R.
