Introducing the 8-Bit Chain: A Voxelized Masterpiece

Hey everyone!

I'm excited to share a new model with you on Thangs: the 8-Bit Chain. This design features voxelized chains with a cool 8-Bit Minecraft aesthetic.

Key Features

  1. No Supports Needed: One of the highlights of this model is that it's designed to be printed without any supports. There are a few small bridges, but they're tiny and shouldn't pose any problem for most 3D printers. So, make sure to disable supports before printing!
  2. Link Mechanism: The chain includes two types of links: one closed and one open. To assemble the chain, simply alternate between the open and closed links. You don't need to print all open links; just use them to connect the closed links.
  3. Half-Links for Mounting: For those who want to mount the chain on a wall, I've included half-links. One of these half-links is flat and perfect for using thick double-sided tape (I recommend 3M double-sided tape) to stick the chain to the wall. The other half-link has holes for screws, allowing you to hang the chain directly on a hook or screw.

Printing Recommendations

  • Layer Height: 0.2 mm
  • Nozzle Size: 0.4 mm
  • Infill: 15%, cubic or 8%, cross hatch.

These settings should ensure a smooth print and make the assembly process easier. The links print relatively quickly, allowing you to create a chain of any desired length.

Aesthetic and Uses

The 8-Bit Chain looks fantastic at 100% scale, with the original model dimensions. It adds a unique, retro touch to any space, whether it’s around your desk, as home decor, or part of a gaming setup.

I hope you enjoy this model as much as I enjoyed creating it. It's a fun and versatile addition to any 3D printing project.

Happy printing!

Best,
Pierre-Henri
