Watertight Test Tubes, Growth Algorithms and a reminder not to eat the PLA

Watertight Test Tubes, Growth Algorithms and a reminder not to eat the PLA

This week’s designs mark the culmination of two projects that I’ve been working on for a while, and the start of a new collaboration.

Furthering my obsession with spiralized printing, the “Test Tube” design holds water! Take a close look at the stl to see the trick. The small ones are watertight right off the build plate, some of the large ones needed a thin layer of CA glue on the bottom to fully seal. I’ve got some Valentine flower holders in the works for these!

The “Mycelium” designs are my first models using a growth algorithm.  At every branch point, the algorithm calculates the direction and length of the next set of branches in order to grow into empty space and avoid collisions. Once I get the algorithm tuned in I’ll be able to take any file and grow mold on it. And you can bet I will.

The pieces in the “Five-Piece Plain Flatware Set” are mockup designs for an upcoming collaboration with a company that will be printing out the next set of designs in stainless steel! Until then, don’t eat the PLA.

I am grateful for your support and interest!
