Gift Box #15
Gift Box #15
This is the fifteenth version in a series of gift boxes that may all look the same on the outside but each have a secret way of opening. This is my first two step puzzle! First you have to discover the hidden key which is stuck in a labyrinth mase. Once you free the key, you must find the hidden keyhole in order to unlatch the top.
WARNING You will need to use PTFE Lubricate Spray(aff) like I did or some other type of lubricant to reduce the cam friction so the top will unlock properly. See more information below.
Printed with Sovol White and Blue Filament.
Printing Its roughly 100mm x 100m x 80mm tall. The top prints in place as one part, none of the parts require supports, designed for a .4mm nozzle. The bow and ribbons for the top are printed separately and are glued on. I printed all the parts in the orientation the stl’s are provided in. I added helper pads to them to keep them stable during printing. I printed everything at .2 layer heights but the box could definitely be printed at a larger layer height without issue.
Assembly The moving bottom ribbon that covers the keyhole slides on a grove and locks into position without glue. The other three faux bottom ribbons are glued on. The keyhole/catch/sprint slides onto the dovetail slot behind the keyhole. There is a holder on the other side of the box to secure the end of the spring, its tapered so it locks as you push it into position. The top prints in place as one part. In order to get it to move more freely, I used PTFE Lubricate Spray(aff). It does have a smell, which I actually like.. If you use as little as possible and leave the top off for a few days the smell will go away but it will till stay lubricated. Other lubricants may work but I have not tired.
I used Gorilla Glue(aff.) for gluing on the ribbons and the bow. If you don’t already own a set of these clamps(aff.) you should pick them up, they really help with gluing the ribbons on.
Printed on the Muldex rep-rap IDEX printer.
Other Gift Boxes You can find ALL the other gift boxes in the Puzzle Present Collection.

hey first off LOVE these boxes!!! but question... I am printing from a Qidi Q2 and just wondering about the "scratching pattern?" for lack of a better term. Is that done for a reason? is it supposed to do that? and if not why do you suppose my printer is doing it? it also did it on the inside bottom of the box as well.
Glad you like them! I dont think that is part of the design, not sure what you cause your printer to do that. I would say to try adding more top layers but that does not seem to be the problem.
Have printed & assembled as indicated. Does not work.
What part of it does not work?
I tried this with an Inland gold/red dual color silk filament and the key immediately broke when I tried to get it back out of the center hole. Will have to try with another brand of filament (probably a single color) to see if it's stronger.
Silks is not very strong, I pure PLA would be much better. You can also add more walls.
