Gift Box #6 Print-in-place

This is the sixth version in a series gift boxes that may look the same on the outside but they each have a secret way of opening. To open this one, turn the very center of the bow 90 degrees. Turning this rotates gears underneath which unlatch the top.

This box is the same as Gift Box #6 but the top and bottom print entirely as one piece, so you don’t have to glue the bows and ribbons on.

Its roughly 100mm x 100m x 80mm tall. No supports are required, I printed it with a .4mm nozzle at .2mm layer heights.

Printed on the Muldex rep-rap IDEX printer.

Note: Assembly model for reference only.

Other Gift Boxes You can find ALL the other gift boxes in the Puzzle Present Collection.

I've given two or three of this model as gifts, with text added at the inside bottom and on the outside top. It takes a while to "loosen up" the moving parts before giving it as a gift. The main downside is that the four ribbons are so high that it's quite difficult to get a good grip on the center piece in order to turn it. But it's so clever and interesting that both I and the recipients like it. But I think they leave the box "unlocked" because it's so difficult to grip the center piece.
The only moving part is the center gear. Everything else is one solid piece of plastic

is the box scalable? would it mess with the gears if sizing up or down?

It is saleable to a certain point because it changes the clearances. You might be able to safely scale it down 25% or so. Someone did 50% on 7 but that would not be easy. I think you can go at least 150-200% bigger without issue. Maybe even bigger but at some point the teeth will skip.
