Grow smarter — not messier — with a fully 3D-printed modular growing platform that takes you from seed start to thriving indoor or outdoor plants.

The Logical Grow Platform (LGP) is a snap-together, adjustable height grow system designed to hold interchangeable seed trays, integrate common LED grow panels, and optionally add bottom heat — all while staying compact enough to print on standard 250mm beds.

What started as a seed starting platform has evolved into something more — shaped by real growing experience. The domed hood worked well, but it blocked the view of the plants and limited light options, so I designed a slimmer, more open canopy. Then I needed more light coverage, so I added a dual LED version. Then I found myself needing a place to set the hood while watering, somewhere to stash seeds and markers, and a spot for a water bottle. Each iteration made the system more practical — and all of it is now included in this download.

While herbs and seedlings are the current focus, the platform is intentionally modular. A self-watering tray system is in development, and future modules will push the LGP further toward a complete indoor growing ecosystem — and a stronger start for plants headed outdoors.

Hood Options — Three Canopies Included Through real growing experience I've iterated on the LGP canopy design, and all three versions are now included in this download. Choose the one that fits your setup, or print them all and swap as your grow evolves.

Original Domed Hood — The original canopy. Solid and functional, but the dome profile sits higher and can limit visibility into the grow area. Great for seed starting where light intensity at close range is the priority.

Slim Single LED Hood — A redesigned, lower-profile canopy that opens up the view of your plants significantly. Fits the same standard aluminum LED panel as the original. The go-to choice for most growers.

Slim Dual LED Hood — The same slim profile but wider, designed to hold two LED panels side by side for increased light coverage. Ideal for growers who want to push their plants harder or cover a fuller tray.

Both slim hoods include hole caps (two styles included) that can be removed to route wiring for optional accessories — fan mounts and camera mounts are coming soon.

Adjustable Height Control A key feature of the Logical Grow Platform is the precision adjustable post system that raises and lowers the light hood smoothly as plants grow. Each full rotation of the posts adjusts the hood by approximately 6mm (about 1/4"), allowing fine control over light distance for strong, compact growth. A built-in visual rotation marker makes it easy to keep the hood perfectly level, and users can choose same-direction or mirrored post motion depending on personal preference.

• Each full rotation raises or lowers the hood about 6mm (approximately 1/4")
• Fine control keeps lights at optimal distance for compact, strong growth
• Built-in extended grip rib acts as a visual rotation marker for perfect leveling
• Posts can be printed mirrored to allow counter-rotating motion if preferred

This creates smooth, repeatable, wobble-free height adjustment without hardware.

Adjustable Post Options — Post A & Post B After growing with the LGP for a while, I realized that taller plants benefit from being able to raise the canopy significantly higher than the original posts allow. So I designed a second, taller post — Post B. Both sizes are now included in this download and are fully interchangeable with the same main body.

Post B (187mm–499mm) — Recommended if you plan to grow plants through their full cycle inside the LGP. The extra height range gives you room to follow your plants as they mature.

Post A (145mm–372mm) — Better suited for pure seed starting, where keeping the canopy lower maximizes light intensity from the LED panel during early germination and sprouting.

Both posts install the same way and require no modifications to the main body.

How It Works

The LGP is built around a snap-together main body that holds interchangeable grow trays inside a raised airflow platform, paired with two precision threaded adjustable posts that support a removable light hood above.

LGP Workstation Accessories Included in this download are three accessories designed to make your LGP workspace more organized and practical. All three rest on the top lip of the main body and can be added or removed any time without tools.

Hood Rest — A dedicated resting spot for the original domed hood when you lift it off for watering or transplanting. Keeps the hood safe and out of the way without setting it down on your bench.

Accessory Tray — A side-mounted storage tray for seeds, plant markers, lids, and small tools. Snaps onto the lip of the main body and stays put during normal use.

Bottle Holder — A side-mounted holder sized for common bottles (68mm diameter) for water, nutrient solution, or whatever you reach for most while tending your grow.

The Logical Grow Platform is designed as a functional print where strength matters.

• Prints support-free in provided orientations
• PLA works well for indoor use
• PETG or ASA recommended for long-term durability or heat exposure
• 40% infill for general use or 100% for maximum lifespan

Everything is optimized for strong, repeatable prints.

Post-Print Setup

Because the adjustable posts are printed with tight tolerances to eliminate wobble, they may need a quick break-in after printing.

• Gently flex or tap the post sections
• Extend and retract fully once or twice
• Use the included post tool if needed

After this, motion becomes smooth and effortless.

• Main body snaps together using built-in tongue-and-groove joints

Why I Designed This

Every year I ended up balancing grow lights on boxes, stacking trays on heat mats, and constantly rebuilding my setup as plants grew taller.

It worked — but it was messy, unstable, and frustrating.

The Logical Grow Platform was designed to turn seed starting into a proper system: adjustable, modular, clean, and fully printable. It creates a stable growing environment now while forming the foundation of a larger growing ecosystem that will expand into longer-term indoor growing and hydro-style modules in the future.

Instead of disposable trays and temporary setups, this is a platform that grows with your plants and your projects.

Coming Soon The LGP continues to evolve. Here's what's in development:

Fan Mount — Attaches to the slim hood and holds a small fan to generate airflow and wind stress, helping build stronger stems. Wiring can be routed through the hood hole caps.

Camera Mount — Also attaches to the slim hood for time-lapse photography or remote monitoring of your grow progress.

Self-Watering Tray — A passive self-watering insert designed to drop into the existing LGP main body. More details coming soon.
