The Hannover CL.IIIa saw the highest production totals of the Hannover CL-types and was well-liked by its crews. The plane was so compact it was frequently mistaken for a single seater, to the attacker's chagrin when it turned out to have a "sting in the tail". Visibility was excellent and the plane had excellent maneuverability due to large, balanced ailerons.
