Sinusoidal Wave of Cylinders

This model is restricted by licensing terms.

The Sinusoidal Wave of Cylinders consists of a grid of circles extruded to varying heights, following a sinusoidal curve to create a wave-like effect. The smooth rise and fall resemble water ripples, giving it a visually engaging and tactile quality. You can customize the look by adjusting the Z-axis height scale, allowing for different wave intensities. The rhythmic pattern combines mathematical precision with a modern look, ideal for 3D printing, digital projects, and more!

Fair Warning: This model takes time to print but is worth the wait. The blue one shown in the photos took 24 hours with my Bambulab P1S. (3MF Included) Adjusting print settings may reduce the time—if you find settings that work well, I’d love to hear about them.

UPDATE: I've added a 3MF file for a smaller version of the design that prints much faster! It's approximately coaster-sized, perfect for holding a standard can.

Additionally, I've uploaded an STL file for a steeper version of the wave (twice as intense!), as well as a 3MF file optimized for a 0.2mm nozzle. You can spot the steeper version in the thumbnail image—it’s the one printed in tri-color silk PLA (not the blue one).

Settings for FDM Printers:

Top Surface Pattern: Archimedean Chords Bottom Surface Pattern: Hilbert Curve or Archimedean Chords (both look awesome in tri-color silk filament, but feel free to choose your favorite pattern). The Archimedean Chords pattern with tri-color filament creates a cool color wheel effect, as shown in the photos. Infill: User preference (I use Gyroid at 10%). Brim (Optional): I almost always use a brim to avoid adhesion issues. Seam Position: Aligned Ironing (Optional): Enable ironing for a smooth top finish on the circular faces. (This will add some time to the print but results in a clean, polished look.)

Have fun! 🥳
