The Australian “Bilby” is a vulnerable species that needs our help and Creatrix Britt is rallying the 3D printing community to join in.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on all of the new releases on Thangs lately, you might have noticed several different models devoted to an adorable little mammal from the land down under called the bilby.

The bilby is a long eared rabbit-like marsupial that weighs in on average at around 2.5–5 lbs. As nocturnal omnivores, they enjoy a diet of spiders, termites, seeds, and larvae.

Multiple factors have contributed to the declining populations of the bilby including the introduction of red foxes who prey on them. Currently they’re endangered in the state of Queensland and are sadly no longer found in New South Wales.

It can’t be said enough, how amazing the 3D community is when it comes to uniting for a good cause. That’s why Creatrix Britt is using her platform to raise awareness for this unique little creature. Here is what she had to say about the #3DPEasterBilbyProject:

Last year, while watching Danny Anduzas Twitch stream (Paleontologizing) he casually mentioned the bilby and the fact that I had never heard of it intrigued me. After a little research I found it was an endangered animal and there had been groups of students from Australia, who previously organized “Easter Bilby” projects in order to raise awareness for it. I promised myself I would start my own 3D printing bilby project this year in time for Easter and that is what we are doing now. I contacted the Save the Bilby Fund in Australia and told them what I wanted to do and with their blessing I’ve organized the #3DPEasterBilbyProject. I asked the community to volunteer their skills and time to create a variety of bilby designs and prints and they have done just that! I have already been told by so many that they too had never heard of the bilby until now- which is so heartwarming since awareness is the very mission of the project. I hope to make the Save the Bilby Fund proud.
