This is a paintable 1:144 scale model of a Nieuport 4M reconnaissance plane. A two-seat Nieuport 6M is also available. Since many painters choose their own mounting system, no peg is included on the plane. Pegs can be purchased separately in the Accessories section of this catalog.

Nieuport's first production order was for the Nieuport 4 (aka 4G), re-designated the Nieuport 6M for military use. A single escadrille, N12, was formed of 6Ms and it flew from the start of the war until the planes could eventually be replaced with Morane-Saulnier L parasols, at which point they were relegated to the training role.

More of them served in Italy, and the first 4Gs were bought in France in 1911 with 50hp Gnome rotary engines. After that first few, the rest were built under license in Italy by the Nieuport-Macchi Company, from which fifty-six examples were ordered. The two-seater (6M) required a more powerful engine and the 80hp Gnome was used. They were used by four Squadriglie: 5ª-8ª, until they were replaced in late summer by Voisin 3s, M.F. 11s, and Nieuport 10s.

In Russia, where roughly 300 were built under license, including many by Dux. The Russian planes served in a scouting role until well into 1916 and even longer as a trainer.
