1:144 Albatros D.I
This is a paintable 1:144 scale model of an Albatros D.I. Since many painters choose their own mounting system, no peg is included on the plane. Pegs can be purchased separately in the Accessories section of this catalog. Also available are models of the similar early-model Albatros D.II and late-model Albatros D.II.
When the Albatros D.I and Albatros D.II fighters arrived at the front in late August 1916, they gave Germany a distinct advantage: a strong, high-power fighter with twin guns. Albatros engineers had been working on the two fighters since April, and _Idflieg _ordered a batch of fifty for each plane. The D.I had a higher wing, and that obscured the front-upward vision of the pilot. With the view from the D.II cockpit proving superior, no further D.I orders followed, and production shifted to the very similar D.II with its lower top wing, and eventually the D.III. The fifty D.Is and their D.II brothers certainly made an impact.
