Kōin (光陰) is a Japanese expression that literally translates to 'Light and Shadow', whilst representing the passage of time and ephermeral nature of all things. This original artwork envisages time as god - the all powerful, all enveloping, inescapable force that it is.

Printing Guidelines

While there are a few pre-scaled sizes included in the download, this artwork can be printed at any size greater than 160 mm tall (the bigger the better, I say!). Simply import one of the files into your slicer and do a uniform scale to your desired size. Then turn off uniform scale and scale the Z dimension back to 1.2mm (minimum). You can use a larger Z height if you want a thicker poster, which may be useful for very large sizes. For example I used a 2.4mm height for a 700mm tall version.

At the default 1.2mm Z height, split the model or do filament swaps at Z:0.6mm and Z:0.9mm

Generally 0.16mm layer height works well, but you may get a smoother result with lower layer height. I used 0.12mm layer height for the 160mm version.

Use Arachne perimeter generation to ensure all the details are included.

You can use UHU Putty to mount smaller sizes, or acrylic double-sided tape for larger prints. Add a backing or frame for extra style points! Using a neon filament for the third color makes for an amazing blacklight poster.

Photographed models were printed using Elegoo Rapid PLA+ Black and White, along with Panchroma Neon Green PLA (Amazon) and Sunlu PLA Meta Cherry Red (Amazon), which both glow under UV blacklights!

The 300mm green version was printed on the Qidi Plus4 3D Printer (Also on Amazon). The 700mm red version was printed on the Elegoo Orangestorm Giga.
