Bonsai 365 Tree Calendar - Japanese Maple Calendar for your Desk

Instructions Hardware Filaments

Bonsai 365! - Advanced

I've wanted to design a bonsai tree ever since making my first plant design. But I wanted to wait until i had a great idea for what it's function should be: which turned out to be this Calendar!

Bonsai trees are a visual representation of the passage of time. They are grown and pruned over decades. So what better plant to represent a calendar than a Bonsai? This was modeled after is a Japanese Maple, known for their uniquely shaped red leaves.

On the first of the month you start with a bare tree. And each day the tree gets a new leaf so you can watch your month bloom.

If you love Bonsai Trees but want something a little smaller, check out my Bendy Bonsai Fidgets!

How to use? To start the month, remove all the leaves from the tree. On the first day of the month, place the 1st leaf in front of the rock in the pot. Then on the 2nd day, swap leaf 1 with leaf 2 and place it on the tree. Repeat each day of the month to keep track of the date and to watch your tree bloom! At the end of the month, swap the month card inside of the rock.

How does the pot work? The pot, drawer, and leaf lifters all print in place. The drawer is pushed out to one side to allow you to grab your month card and leaf for your tree. There are lifters to help you life your leaf out of the drawer.

Pretty disappointed in the pot, I printed it twice; first time using the 3mf file without any changes, and the second time with the .97 bridge flow after reading through the comments.

Both end up as shown in the pictures. Wasted 500g of filament, not pleased with this at all. The stringing catches each time the leaf holder is opened and leads to at least 2-3 breaking off each time, making it harder to open over time.

I have printed the pot and the feet so far and I love how they look so far but I have noticed that the hot end rubbed as it was printing on the top and I can't figure out why. The drawer makes a horrible noise when it is opened and closed but can't see any specific issue and if I close the drawer all the way it pushed the back foot off. I printed from the easy print file and I am using pla.
I wanted to try something diffferent.
A bit more spring-like blossem fantasy tree if thats even a thing haha.
If u do like it, please like my make!

I used Polyterra Muted white for the tree, Bambu Matte Dark brown for the base and Candy Pink from Polyterra for the leaves. It was a fun make to do!
Absolutely blast to print and make! My daughter and I built it together and what a rip-roarin' good time!
Printed using Polymaker filaments :)

Leaves: Marble Brick Red, Cotton White, Earth Brown
Trunk: Earth Brown
Pot: Marble Slate Grey

HI! When you say it rubbed on the top surface, do you mean like ironing? If not it could be that the print may have warped on a corner while printing (pulled itself off the print bed) and that can cause a few issues including the feet fit issues.

Do you think it would be possible or to add an update that includes more bonsai-looking leaves and/or flowers? I love the idea and always wanted a bonsai but don’t have the patience for it to grow. Would love to print one lol

Maybe the leaves could snap onto the branches and cherry blossom-like flowers could have the magnets with the dates? That would be so cool.

This is such a great design, thank you! I love the slding leaf slots but found that they "dip" down just a hair - enough to get stuck with the feet. I just imported the feet as a mesh into fusion and trimmed off 3mm from the top and now the drawer doesn't get stuck!

I got the pot assembled and I'm having the same issue as well. Is there anyway to get a copy of the modified feet?

Matt M

Started seeing this issue too. After those lifting plates started to get a little worn in they catch on the feet when they dip down.

This has since been fixed! Those lifters no longer get stuck in the newest version of the files

Hi, I'm so sorry that you are disappointed in the print. Since the bridging has to be so large, the stringing can happen like that. A quick fix would be to hit those strings with a torch lighter or heat gun to get them to lay flat and out of the way for when the drawer moves. It would also help prevent more strings from breaking.
