This mechanical counter prototype uses empty filament spools to make a huge counter with relatively little filament.
Printing
All parts can be printed without supports.
Switch your filament color half way through the numbers print to get the digits display clearly.
Assembly
Print one right and one core for each digit.
Print one less carryover gear that the number of digits you have.
Having an input wheel is optional. Regardless of whether the first wheel is a number or an input wheel, use the "Core for Input Wheel.stl", which include a starting cap.
When attaching numbers, use the included paper template to align them properly with the notch in the internal ring. Numbers can be added in ascending OR descending order, but 9 and 0 must line up precisely with the carryover notch.
Hardware
Files are sized for Hatchbox spools, or any spools with the following dimensions
Spool hole diameter - 55mm Spool width - 67mm wide Spool interior width - 61mm
2.5mm smooth rod to hold the counter solidly and straight. You can try gluing the parts instead, but this is not recommended.
a scrap of 1.75mm flexible TPU filament, or similar elastic, to pull all of the parts together.
