ArrowMax Mini Drill Press Upgrade
I had been looking into 3D printing a small benchtop press for my Pinecil soldering iron to make installing heatset inserts cleanly a bit easier, when I remembered that I already had a small benchtop drill press from an electric pen drill I had gotten on Kickstarter a year or two back. Instead of printing an entire press I opted to design a replacement carriage that would allow me to swap tool holders on the one I had.
The drill and press I have appear to still be available here.
Assembly requires:
- 1x M3x4 Heatset Insert (goes in the carriage to secure tool-holders)
- 1x M3x6 Bolt (used to secure tool-holders to carriage)
- 2x 12mm long sections of brass tubing with ID=5mm, OD=6mm (used to make sliding smoother)
- 1x M3x10 Bolt + Nut (used to tighten Pinecil tool holder)
The tubing could probably be skipped if you're willing to tweak the model slightly and fiddle with tolerances; I just happened to have an assorted tubing kit around for model making/kitbashing, and one of them fit nicely over the rails on the press. The tubing is a press-fit into the holes on the carriage.
I printed both pieces without supports, but the pinecil tool-holder may need them, depending on how well calibrated your printer is.
The models were designed in OnShape, and can be found here if you're interested in making modifications.
