A Pen Case that doubles as a Pen Stand
Note: THIS MODEL HAS A FLAW THAT IT CANNOT FIT PENS LONGER THAN HALF THE BOX SIZE. PLEASE DOWNLOAD MKVI Model
Looking at the pen stand on my desk, I realized it doesn't have to be a static object that is only able to hold pens on a flat surface. It can double up as a pencil case/pen case that can be carried around to office/school. I came up with this double hinged swivel design with gears to make the lid close through 180 degrees. #DIY #augustchallenge
I've added three variants of the pen stand. I'd recommend Mk5.5 as my favorite as it almost completely transforms into a pen stand. The other two are variants that can hold erasers or small objects on the lid.
For printing this, refer to how I've split up the gears and the case in the stl files. For printing the case, add box support enforcers in prusa slicer for the swivel hinges on both sides. For Mk5.5 this is enough; for MkV and MkVI, the shorter lids will also need supports. Print the gears separately along the z axis and use a little super glue to attach them into place.
