Duck Foot Splint v1

Imagine Context White = PLA, Orange = TPU Sketch Unit: Millimeters (mm)

Inspiration & File Details Inspired by: duck_splint.obj by "mikeconnors" on Thingiverse File Date: 2/17/2024 Purpose: Designed as a sturdy, scalable and adjustable splint for correcting club foot in baby ducklings.

Overview I needed a splint/brace/cast that would fit a baby duckling to help correct a club foot. It needed to be sturdier than the design by "mikeconnors" so that it could be printed for tiny duckling feet. It also needed to be easily manipulated post-print so that it could be adjusted to the duckling's current state of development.

Adjustment Instructions All you need to do to adjust it is hold a lighter to the splint for a few seconds, then press, pull, or form the part into the desired shape or angle.

Sizing the Splint To match the splint's size to your duck's foot, simply measure the width of your duck's foot (claw to claw) and match the scale of the x-axis dimension of the model in your slicer (it is the x-axis on my slicer "Luban").

Customization If you feel like the leg brace—or any other part of the model—is too long or gets in the way for your duckling or duck, just use some clippers (such as wire cutters) to adjust it to your specific situation.

Materials and Printing I have personally only printed the model in PLA and TPU. I recommend using PLA in most situations, especially for ducklings, as they need a firmer, stiffer brace with the aggressive speed at which they grow. Additionally, with regard to duckling growth, you will likely need to make a new brace for your duckling daily until the foot has been corrected and growth has slowed.

The printing parameters are more situational in nature, so just go with whatever you feel is best.

Final Notes If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment, but I cannot guarantee a speedy response. Happy printing and good luck with your mud birds!
