So I have been looking for an auxiliary cupholder for when my co pilot is absent. I looked at the other designs and tried a couple but did not like them. So I went looking and found the perfect cupholder. It folds up and does not take space when the co pilot is present, it will hold everything from a redbull to a big gulp, and it is very well built.
So I started trying to adapt the current designs and they just did not work for me so i stole a little inspiration from one and made the recessed screw point and with it snug up against the center console I thought, rather than having something going up and over to stabilize why not use the bottom edge. so did a little measuring and put a tab to stabilize against the bottom edge rather than the top.
I will tell you, my miata is awaiting a top replacement so i have not been out and about, so i will update at some point with how it works in practice but it does look nice right now.
oh, the print orientation for this is flat with the recessed up and no supports. I did put 1 layer in the screw hole, that is so that it can print the bridge, you simply ream the hole through that one layer. ** For newbies : this is a trick to allow you to print an overhang (typically called a bridge) without ending up with a snarly mess. This will print nicely since it is not printing a hole in mid air **
material - abs. in car temps require abs, aba or pc
also, i had to trim the included screws down to 10mm so they were the right dimensions not to continue through to damage the car.
here is the google link to the one i bought. in my case, the price was 12.99 with prime, but it fluctuates so check around https://www.google.com/search?q=JR+Products+45623+Tan+Adjustable+Cup+Holder&oq=JR+Products+45623+Tan+Adjustable+Cup+Holder
edit 8/6 while it was perfect in the forward direction the original design would tilt backwards sometimes, so i looked again and accounted for a bit of curve in the edge of the center console at the mounting point. now it is rock solid both ways.
