1/48 Tamiya A6M5 Zero Long Lower Exhaust (Mitsubishi Type)
1/48 exhaust pipes for the Tamiya A6M5 (No.103) kit, reproducing the long-type lower exhausts used on mid‑production Mitsubishi-built Zero fighters (late Oct 1943 – early Feb 1944).
These parts replace kit part D10 with no modification required. The wider spacing exhaust is the left side, and the narrower spacing exhaust is the right side. This exhaust configuration corresponds to Tamiya’s painting option C in the kit instructions.
This long exhaust type is 80 mm longer (full‑scale) than the later standardized exhausts included in the kit. The longer pipes caused heat damage to the wheel covers, so they were shortened in later production, resulting in the commonly known “standard length” exhausts.
Most aircraft equipped with this exhaust type were deployed to Rabaul, making this configuration suitable for mid‑production Mitsubishi A6M5s that served in the Rabaul air defense role.
The weld seam seen on the real aircraft is reproduced. If you prefer to match the simplified kit style, you may remove the weld line or add it to the kit’s upper exhausts for consistency.
For higher accuracy, the small heat‑shield panel molded behind the upper exhausts on the kit may be removed, as this feature does not apply to this production period.
Files include left (L) and right (R) exhaust pipes.
