"O'zapft is!" is a Bavarian phrase meaning "It's tapped!" and is famously associated with the start of the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. The phrase is traditionally uttered by the Mayor of Munich after he has tapped the first barrel of beer, marking the official opening of the festival. The ceremony has become a symbol of Bavarian culture and Oktoberfest's lively celebration of beer, music and camaraderie. The tapping ceremony usually takes place at midday on the first day of the festival and attracts large crowds eager to enjoy the festivities.
